About Tara

Tara received her training and certification as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s cutting-edge Health Coach Training Program.

During her training, she studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts.

The programs instructors included: Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities.

Her education has equipped her with extensive knowledge in general nutrition, holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health. Drawing on these skills and her knowledge of different dietary theories, she works with her clients to help them create lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results that fit naturally into real life!

Tara’s passion for coaching has grown directly from her commitment to her own health, and a never-ending curiosity in how nutrition affects our overall wellbeing and happiness.

When it comes to exercise and training programs, Tara’s athletic background covers several different areas. She’s an avid runner with a variety of marathons, ultra-marathons, and shorter events under her belt. She’s competed as a figure athlete, and has studied and executed several different types of in-depth strength-training programs.

When Tara is not in the kitchen, she can be found out on the trail either hiking or running with dogs and her son. After that trail run is done, you’ll usually find Tara advocating for animal rights, fostering dogs in need of a new home, and spreading awareness on the treatment of animals in today’s society. And of course, reading bedtime stories!

Diabetes Coaching

Tara has a special passion for coaching people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes that evolved from supporting and caring for several close friends and family members affected by either type. In life with diabetes, it can be very overwhelming to figure out what the “right diet” is because of the constant pressure to eliminate all carbohydrates or fill your refrigerator with “diet” foods. Tara’s approach to nutrition for people with diabetes begins with learning the values of clean eating and whole foods. From there, she will support the nutritional goals each client comes with. If you’re eager to learn how to adopt a balanced low-carb diet into your life, Tara will coach you in support of that goal. Tara’s Recommended Diabetes Books

Think Like a Pancreas by Gary Scheiner, CDE

“This is the book for anyone with type 1 diabetes. When you leave the hospital with insulin doses set-up by your doctor, that doesn’t necessarily mean those doses won’t need fine-tuning, and you can bet they’ll change throughout different parts of your life (aging, stress, weight changes, diet changes, activity level, etc.). Gary is the go-to guru diabetes educator for type 1 diabetes, and he’s lived with type 1 diabetes for about 30 years himself.”

Type 2 Diabetes: an Essential Guide for Newly Diagnosed by Gretchen Becker

“Type 2 diabetes is far more complicated than reducing the sugar in your diet…and Gretchen Becker does an amazing job in this guide at breaking down the many aspects of this disease, treatment options, nutrition, etc. In addition to a background in medical journalism, Becker lives with type 2 diabetes herself, so she knows firsthand how overwhelming it can all be.”

Emotional Eating with Diabetes

“This book is very easy to read while digging into your relationship and habits with food. Ginger’s take on building a healthy relationship with food is all about balance–not perfection or strict rules. I use this book as workbook with my clients!”

Dealing with Diabetes Burnout

“Type 1 diabetes is non-stop work and nobody breaks down this aspect of life with this disease in such a positive and even humorous manner like Ginger does in this book! She wrote this book not just to help type 1s work through phases of burnout, but also to help them know it’s okay to feel burnt out, and isn’t something you have to be ashamed of. I highly recommend this whether you’re feeling burnt out or not…it’ll make you smile!”

Your Diabetes Science Experiment

“Balancing your blood sugar around exercise and nutrition and insulin isn’t easy! Ginger wrote this book to help other type 1s learn how different types of exercise impact their blood sugar, how to balance blood sugar during exercise, how to eat a cleaner diet, and how to fine-tune all of your insulin doses. I especially appreciate how she takes complicated science and makes it easy to learn and understand.”

Happy Customers

This is just what a few of my clients have said.

Lost 150 pounds

“Working with Tara was so smooth and easy. At first I admit I was skeptical, but after 5 minutes on the phone, that was all gone. I was able to lose 150 pounds just by switching from diet soda to water alone. I went from drinking 3 liters of soda a day and weighing 398 to currently weighing between 245-250. And we haven’t stopped here. We are now working with food, I never thought “healthy” meals could taste so good. I was afraid of healthy, until I realized, all healthy is, is eating real whole foods, nothing weird or exotic. And the best part is, there’s still room for treats.”

I now know how to cook and I love it!

“I’ve had type 2 diabetes for a while now, years. I knew I’d been ignoring it and by doing so, messing with my health. My wake up call was when my Doctor told me, if I didn’t make changes soon, I’d be taking injections. I had no clue what to do. I get 5-minute appointments, a referral to a dietician and then I’m on my own. I was told what not to have, and what I couldn’t have was the only food I knew to eat. That’s when I took matters into my own hands and found Tara. I lost 60 pounds immediately just by adding water and less diet soda. Tara never once told me I couldn’t eat this or couldn’t have that, she encouraged me every step of the way. I now know how to cook and love it! I have people asking me for my recipes. I now take Tara’s online cooking classes and they’re awesome.”

I wasn't a runner before, but I'm feeling like a runner now

“I had decided I wanted to run a marathon. Mind you, this was not my first marathon, this would be my second. This time I wanted to train, not get hurt and have someone to check in with during my training. I had been referred to Tara for a running plan. I got that and so much more. She conformed it around my work and personal schedule, made it incredibly easy for me. I told her my easy days, longs days, when I wanted to start and when my race was. The schedule was PERFECT for me. I was pushed without her physically being here. I wasn’t a runner before, but I’m feeling like a runner now.”

The knowledge and support Tara offers is outstanding

“Working with Tara has enabled me to have my A1c at 5.4, the lowest its ever been in over 20 years! I’m also down 8 pounds as an added bonus. We weren’t even working on weight loss. I was too afraid to ask for help with weight loss. I’ve failed so many times before…I didn’t want to set myself up for failure. The knowledge and support Tara offers is outstanding. I’ve finally set some weight loss goals for myself, said them out loud, and am excited to work on my next journey with Tara.”
